Copenhagen extends a warm friendly hand of welcome to all who visit her. The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen is located on the island of Zealand and is the largest city in Scandinavia.

Copenhagen city is an interesting mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly. The good is that of Frederiksberg, the bad consists of places like Vesterbro with its rife prostitution and drug problem and the ugly are towns like Pisserenden and Amager which are fighting to get the better of their slum like beginnings.

All in all, it is a lively city with a small town attitude. Important buildings to take a look at on arrival include Christiansborg Slot once a castle but now home to Parliament. Head over to the Inner City for it is packed with buildings that have been untouched by the modern world over the last few centuries. An impressive building of religious significance is Copenhagen's Church of Roskilde. It is one of the oldest in the world and a sight to behold.

Enjoy a trip to the old Tivoli amusement park and head to Frederiksberg Slot for lots of life and entertainment.

Accommodation in Copenhagen is concentrated in three streets, Vester Volgade, Colbjornsensgade and Helgolandsgade.

Otherwise known as the Royal City, Copenhagen is home to Queen Margrethe II who generally resides at the impressive and spectacular Amalienborg Palace.

Famous for its annual July Jazz Festival, Copenhagen attracts thousands of tourists every year, many eagerly awaiting the charming sight and much recognised symbol of the city, The Little Mermaid statue sitting on her rock in Copenhagen Harbour.

The city being an incredibly lively place also kindly provides pockets of peace and tranquillity away from the madness in the form of generously proportioned parks and lakes. Such respites are ideal for a peaceful picnic between energetic bouts of sightseeing.

Why not walk in the footsteps of Denmarks famous literary ancestor, Hans Christian Anderson. At every turn Copenhagen tour guides proudly promote its famous fairy tale writing ancestor and takes you to neighbouring Odense to retrace his life, experiences and inspirations.

While in Copenhagen, you are perfectly located to explore what lies beyond. You will be pleasantly surprised as you happen upon interesting places that you werent expecting to find. One such haven is the quaint fishing village of Dragor but only a 12km journey away.

Roskilde (formerly the capital of Denmark) is the place to visit for a journey back to Viking times where the ancient craft of Viking shipbuilding is demonstrated...a must see for boat lovers! In addition to this (if you happen to visit in the month of July) you must take part in the annual Viking Festival where you can enjoy traditional Viking food, music and entertainment all this but only a short drive away from Copenhagen!
