Affectionately known as Denmark's 'small big city', Aarhus is surrounded by nature at every turn. In the north and south of the city you will encounter delightful woodland and everywhere in between offers generous spots of parks and gardens. Situated on the coast, Aarhus can provide generous bathing possibilities with Den Permanente, Bellevue Strand and Moesgard Strand being the best of the bunch.

There are generous servings of things to enjoy at the Marselisborg Woods region. These woods skirt along the southern coastline for about eight kilometres and lead down to the sea. Here in addition to the Thors Molle and Skovmollen watermill restaurants is the Deer Park where roe deer and wild boar roam free.

Further north, you will encounter beaches that are characteristic of east coast Jutland beaches. These beaches tend to have calm waters and are accessible from the road offering suitable parking and other family facilities.

The terrain and landscape of Aarhus (as well as a large portion of Copenhagen) generally lacks steep inclines making the city a perfect place for clearing out the cobwebs and jumping on a bicycle! Many places of interest are within close proximity of one another and but a short cycle path away from one another. There are lots of places for you to relax and get your breath back with parks scattered across the city.

Aarhus is traditionally a market town with a cosmopolitan vibrancy and atmosphere. You will not be disappointed by the experiences on offer here. Wander about the city centre streets minus the worry of crossing busy roads because central Aarhus has been considerately pedestrianized. This makes for relaxing shopping and outdoor conversation and coffee supping!

While in Aarhus you will enjoy the narrow streets and well preserved dated architecture of the Latin Quarter as well as the cute Arhus A River cafes, a cathedral and shopping on the Stroget.

You can buy one to cover you for between one and seven days saving money on public transport, museums and attractions admission as well as shopping. You will find the Aarhus Pass at every turn, at your hotel, newsagents and Tourist Aarhus. It costs 97 DKK (EUR 13)(GBP 9)(1 day) and 121 DKK (EUR 16) (GBP 11) for seven days.

There are many exciting attractions around town from Den Gamle By, a living and breathing museum of how life used to be in latter day market town Aarhus to the Aarhus Art Building exhibiting the largest collection of contemporary art in Denmark. Art lovers will also enjoy the Aros Art Museum, which holds a Danish art collection dating back three hundred years to the modern day. An impressive local attraction is the Moesgard Museum complete with archaeological finds and the world's most well conserved peat bog corpse.

Lovers of plants and animals will enjoy the Natural History Museum. In Aarhus, do not to miss the experience of the Occupation Museum. The museum exhibits local life during the uncertain time of World War 2 within a building, which was once Gestapo Head Quarters. For history even further back in time, the Viking Museum is located on the site where Viking walls were discovered.
