Bountiful Burgas, first port of call to the beautiful resorts of the Bulgarian Black Sea, there are plenty of reasons why this is such a popular city. One of the principal cities on the Bulgarian Black Coast, it is the capital of the province of Burgas as well as a leading centre for industry and tourism.

The largest port in the country with a daily generous helping of holiday and domestic traffic, it may come as no surprise to learn Burgas to come when the cravings for cosmopolitan atmosphere and cultural feastings get out of control. In addition to the university, the city owes much of its vibrant atmosphere to its exhibition events and international calendar.

The Black Sea, a body of water is situated in the heart of south east Europe and Turkey and an area adored for its pretty holiday resorts. The Black Sea is connected to the Sea of Marmara and Azov to the Mediterranean by means of the Bosporus and the Kerch Strait.

When visiting the Black Sea, you are well placed for touring Bulgaria’s neighbours each likewise perching on the periphery of the waterfront. Take your pick from Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia each of them offering a generous holiday market commitment to the region’s stunning resorts. The most popular of all the resorts are argued to be those of the Bulgarian Riviera including Byala, Ahtopol, Lozenets and Nesebar.

The climate here is glorious boasting summer temperatures of 28 degrees and thereabouts with in excess of 300 hours of sunshine throughout July and August.

Lozenets, a lively holiday resort is no stranger to tourism and as such has adjusted to the needs of a growing market. A lively and very popular tourist resort, the region of Nesebar is on the doorstep of the even more popular Sunny Beach holiday spot. A holiday resort with a difference, Nesebar is adored for its historical and cultural attractions particularly along its peninsula. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the region offers many interesting old sights including its stunning fourteenth century church of St Ioan Aliturgetos and its picturesque Old Town.

To the north of airport city Burgas is the fun sounding aptly named holiday resort known as Sunny Beach. Probably the most popular of all the resorts, Sunny Beach boasts hundreds of hotels matched in number by restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The shores are flanked with tall glossy hotels which become completely booked during the summer months, the majority of which are from the younger age ranges.

Affectionately called the Bulgarian St Tropez, the lively resort of Sozopol is one of the best there is. An old seaside town, famed for its Apollonia Film and Art Festival, it is a thirty kilometres journey from Burgas.

The most sizeable island the Black Sea has to offer, St Ivan Island is a close neighbour to popular Sozopol and within a few metres of St Peter Island. When on St Ivan Island, a main attraction is that of the twelfth century monastery, St John’s. Additionally there is the nineteenth century lighthouse to enjoy as well as its nature reserve where several rare species of birds as well as monk seals roam.

Other popular tourist attractions within the heart of the Black Sea’s most lively city centre include the Burgas Regional History Museum, the Museum of Science and Nature, the Opera House, the Ethnographic Museum, Burgas Art Gallery and Lake Burglas.
